What is floating?

Floating is an experience of ultimate peace and relaxation in which you spend one hour in a private, specialized pod filled with ten inches of highly-saturated Epsom salt water causing one to float completely effortlessly atop the water at near zero-gravity.

Can Anyone Float?

Yes, everyone can float….the density of the Epsom Salt allows for it to occur naturally without any effort. Floating can be done by nearly anyone from stressed-out managers, overworked moms, athletes, and those individuals just wanting to escape from everyday life and experience a state of complete physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.  We do however highly recommend that if you suffer from any medical conditions (clinically-diagnosed depression, etc) that you consult with your primary care physician prior to floating.

What if I am claustrophobic?

Many people are concerned with whether they will feel enclosed or trapped like in a coffin or tanning bed.  However, our float pods are spacious, allowing one to float comfortable and even sit up in the pod if necessary.  Although many choose to float in complete darkness, inside lighting is available. Lastly, the door to the float pod can easily be opened at any time by the floater.

What if I cannot swim?

The floatation pod has such a high-density of Epsom salt that any individual, big or small, will float like a cork atop the water.  In fact, many people restfully sleep while in the floatation pod.

Will I get hot or cold in the water?

You should not feel hot or cold. The water is kept at about 94 degrees. This is skinreceptor neutral, which means you lose track  of where your body ends and the water begins.

What effects does floating have on the mind?

The deep mental relaxation initiated by floating allows the brain to produce a greater amount of theta waves, which are accompanied by an increase in mental clarity, creativity, imagery, and memory.  In addition, the release of the endorphins induces the feeling of elevated mood states which are effective in helping alleviate anxiety, depression, and negative mental habits.

Will my skin get wrinkly?

No! The high Epsom salt content of the water means that the water will not draw the salt from your skin and cause wrinkles like a long bath does. Epsom salt has been used for centuries as a medicinal treatment for various skin conditions. It is non-toxic and is not harmful if swallowed (although it does not taste good!). Epsom salt is actually quite nourishing for the skin, which may feel silky smooth after your float session.

What do I wear?

That is entirely up to you!

You can wear a swimsuit or nothing at all; whatever lets you relax and feel the most comfortable.

We have earplugs and goggles if you desire them, although they are not required for most people

Can two of us float at the same time?

No. Floating is a solitary act. Our float pod is meant for one person at a time

What happens if I get salt water in my eyes?

It will certainly not feel good! Try to not touch your eyes while in the tank.  Just in case, we provide a clean washcloth just outside the tank you can use

What will it be like for me?

We don’t know what it will be like for you since it is such an individual experience. We anticipate you will feel profound peace and relaxation, deep concentration and creativity. We don’t want to say too much before people use the tank, so that they aren’t influenced by what someone else says. Not only will it be different for you than it is for anyone else, it will be different each time.

Are there times I can’t float?

Please do not use the float tank if you have any of the following conditions:

  • You have had any type of hair color/treatment within the past three weeks.
  • You are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • You have a communicable or infectious skin condition, disorder, or diseases.
  • You have open sores.
  • You are diabetic, unless your diabetes is under medical control.
  • You have a history of heart trouble, epilepsy, seizures or blackouts and have not received your doctor’s permission to use the floatation tank.
  • You are experiencing a heavy menstrual period or external vaginal episode.
  • You have a skin condition which may be adversely affected by absorption of magnesium.
  • You have kidney disease.
  •  You have incontinence, or voluntarily/involuntarily release of bodily fluids of any kind.
  • You are pregnant and have not received my doctor’s permission to float.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone at any time.

How does the water stay clean?

Our float pod has about 400 pounds of Epsom salt dissolved in the water, which makes it impossible for bacteria, including microbes and other pathogens, to live.

The water is filtered and sterilized between each session  using a combination of UV (Ultraviolet Light) and Ozone. No harsh chemicals (Chlorine, Bromine etc) are used.

We also disinfect the pod using Puregreen24, a level IV EPA registered “Green” disinfectant containing sliver and citrus nitrate, safe for contact with children and animals.

Can I float with color-treated hair?

If you just dyed your hair, don’t book an appointment until the water runs clear in your shower.  Your hair dye will stain our tanks and we will have to charge you a cleaning fee.

Can I float if I’m pregnant?

Absolutely!! In fact, pregnant women probably get more relief from the float tank than anyone else. Just lying on a bed can be extremely uncomfortable for a woman in the later stages of pregnancy due to the massive gravitational strain placed on the body. The float tank is a wonderful haven for pregnant women. If you have any concerns about the effects of floating on your pregnancy, we ask you to consult and get permission from your physician before you float.

What do I need to bring?

Nothing!  We provide everything you might need to make your visit amazing including towels, washcloths, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. We even have a hairdryer is you don’t want to leave with wet hair
